Vol. CCXLIII A. Plan of the siege of the city of Cork, showing the progress of the siege of October 1690. No cartographer or date given. Scale bar of 100 yards at 100 yards to 2.4 inches [1:1500]. No compass points, but west at top. 634 mm. x 1000 mm. Imperfect, with only an irregularly shaped fragment, measuring 310 mm. x 150 mm. at its largest points, remaining from the right side of plan. Pen, pencil and coloured inks and washes on six sheets of paper stuck together without backing. Extent: North Gate (north), south of Cat Fort (south), marshes (east), St Finbar's Cathedral (west). Unfinished, the positions of the besieging forces south of Cat Fort being sketched in pencil. Gradients, buildings and street plan in suburbs indicated in grey wash, street plan within walls, fortifications, trenches, batteries (with range of fire) and manoeuvres of besiegers (for which see D. Chandler, Marlborough as Military Commander, 1973, pp. 38-41) indicated in red and black ink and yellow and pink washes. Miniature view of St Finbar's Cathedral.
