Vol. CCCXXI (ff. 166). Narrative written by the Duchess for Elizabeth, 3rd wife of Gilbert Burnet, Bishop of Salisbury, chiefly relating to the quarrels of William III and Mary II with Queen Anne as Princess; 1704-late 1730s(?). Three versions as follows: — (1) 'A true account of the ill & undeserved treatment of the Princesse Anne of Denmarke by king William, & Queen Mary her sister, contrived & carry'd on by the Earle of Rochester'; the original draft, 'written at Windsor Lodge November the 13, 1704' (f. 1). Autograph, except for ff. 57-58b, which are in the hand of the Duchess's steward, Charles Hodges, and ff. 61-70, in that of her chambermaid, Judith Forster. ff. 1-70.
(2) Fair copy of the preceding in a scribal hand, temp. Anne, with a few emendations and an endorsement in the hand of Christopher Loft, her steward in old age. ff. 71-136b.
(3) Another version, partially rearranged and with numerous additions and omissions; late 1730s (?). ff. 137-156 are in the hand of Loft, and ff. 157-162b in that of James Stephens, D.Med., her secretary in old age. ff. 137-162b.
