Vol. CCCXXV (ff. 149). Vindication concerning the Duchess's conduct in financial matters and her loss of favour; compiled to her instructions at Frankfurt and Antwerp by her chaplain and secretary, Whadcock Priest, D.D. (see her note, f. 146; Priest is incorrectly referred to by Coxe, e.g. f. 148 and Add. MS. 61423, f. 189, as 'Mr St Priest'); 1713. Five versions as follows: — (1) 'Memorandums for Mr Hutchinson [i.e. Archibald Hutcheson] To vindicate the Dutchess of Marlborough in those things of which she is so unjustly accused', altered to 'A Letter to Mr Hutchinson . . . '

(2) Fair copy of (1) above in another hand, with numerous corrections and additions by the Duchess and Priest. ff. 24-54.
(3) Another version by Priest, with the title changed to 'An Account of some Matters of Fact wch relate to The Dutchess of Marlborough's Conduct at Court', the emendations from (2) above incorporated and additional material added in an appendix. Autograph fair copy. ff. 55-91b.
(4) Another partial version by Priest, in which material from the appendix to (3) above is expanded and incorporated into the main text. Autograph. ff. 92-106b.
(5) Another version by Priest incorporating the changes made in (4) above, but omitting references to the Duchess's sale of court offices before Queen Anne's accession. Autograph fair copy. ff. 107-145.
