Vol. CCCXXVI (ff. 276). Vindication compiled by Benjamin Hoadly, Bishop of Bangor, Hereford (1721), Salisbury (1723) and Winchester (1734); with related papers by the Duchess and others; 1715-late 1730s(?). As follows: — (1) Narrative by Hoadly in five sections (ff. 1-50, 51-120, 121-170, 171-210, 211-249), concerning the Duchess's conduct at Court, 1683-1711. The first four sections, excerpts from which are printed in Private Correspondence, II, pp. 116-145, are based in part on Burnet's narrative in Add. MS. 61423 (2) above. The fifth section, in the form of an appendix, is entitled 'An Account of some Matters of Fact relateing to the Dutchess of Marlborough's Conduct: referr'd to, in the Foregoing Memoirs', and dated at the end 25 July 1715, probably the completion date of the whole work; it concerns her conduct in financial matters, and is largely based on the related parts of Priest's narrative in Add.
