BLENHEIM PAPERS. Vol. CCCCI (ff. 110). Articles of agreement of, and memorials, etc., relating to, diplomatic and military agreements, 1655-1720; including (ff. 37-39b) an original protocol of the Anglo- Tripolitanian peace treaty of 1703; (ff. 68-69b) a declaration signed by Prince Eugene of Savoy relating to the dispatch of Imperial troops to Catalonia in 1708; and (ff. 97-108b) a project for the Austro-Spanish and Austro-Sicilian treaties in the Quadruple Alliance, 1718. The papers concerning the Congress of Nijmegen (ff. 2-12) probably belonged to Robert, 2nd Earl of Sunderland. The copy (ff. 92-93b) of the secret article of the Anglo-Spanish peace treaty of 1713 relating to Siena (for which see M. A. Martin, 'The Secret Clause: Britain and Spanish Ambitions in Italy, 1712-1731', European Studies Review, VI, 1976, pp. 407-425) appears to stem from French and Spanish material intercepted between December 1716 and March 1717 (see Add. MSS. 61569-61575 below). Versions of the text of most of these papers are printed in An Index of British Treaties 1101-1968, ed. C. Parry and C. Hopkins, 1973, II, pp. 68-86, and Österreichische Staatsvertäge. England 1526-1748, ed. A. F. Pribram, Innsbruck, 1907, pp. 162-428, passim. Partly French, Italian, Portuguese, Latin, German and Dutch. Partly signed and printed. Mostly copies, extracts and abstracts.
