BLENHEIM PAPERS. Vol. DXCII (ff. i+57). 'Leicester's Commonwealth', an anonymous pamphlet against Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, now attributed to either Sir Charles Arundell (d. 1588), or to Thomas Morgan (b. 1543, d. 1606), or to a circle of writers including these two (see Halkett & Laing, A Dictionary of Anonymous and Pseudonymous Publications, 3rd ed., ed. J. Horden, 1980, C. 300); circ. 1584. Fair copy in two alternating hands, mostly secretary (with another which appears only on ff. 23b-24). Other copies are now Sloane MSS. 1303, ff. 7-59b; 1566; 3273; Add. MSS. 6130; 33739; and Stowe MSS. 156, ff. 109-204; 270; 271, ff. 1b-48. First printed as The Copy of a Letter Written by a Master of Arts at Cambridge to his Friend at London, Antwerp (?), 1584. Imperfect, by the loss of a folio after f. 2. Vellum cover, with old label '22'. Names of 'Thomas Edgerley' and 'James Shirley' on f. i, presumably as owners.
