FLEMING PAPERS. Vol. LIII. 12 March 1924-10 Jan. 1928.
ff. ii + 55. 277 x 225mm. Ring binder with hard, black cover. It was advertised as a ‘scholastic notebook’.
Label inside the cover for ‘W. Isacke, Manufacturing Stationer, Printer… and Account Book maker, 133 Praed St., London.’
This notebook has been divided into named sections. However, as it is a ring binder it is difficult to know if the papers are in the correct order or if sheets have been added later on.
Notebook includes:
Section one:
1. f. 2. The effect of salt on bactericidal power of blood on lysozyme and on emigration with NaCl; 23 June 1924.
2. ff. 4-5. The effect of hypotonic solution on bactericidal emigration and phagocytosis, including graphs; 20 May 1925.
3. ff. 6-12. Experiments to examine the effect of salt on lysozyme, in lined tubes, blood on bactericidal to staphylococcus, emigration and phagocytosis; 18 May 1925.
4. f. 13. The effect of neutral red and Brilliant Cresyl Blue on emigration; 19 May 1925.
5. ff. 15-19. Experiments with intravenous injections of NaCl, one was tested on a man; 13-31 March 1924.
6. f. 20. Intravenous injections of Chloramine T; n.d.
7. f. 21. Experiment involving intravenous injection of alcohol on bactericidal; 24 March 1924.
Section two: 12 March 1924-26 May 1925.
ff. 21-25. Salt.
i) Experiment examining the effect of salt on bactericidal power of blood
ii) Intravenous injection of salt into a rabbit
iii) Experiment using intravenous injection of KCl03 into rabbits to see if bactericidal increased
iv) Intravenous of basic fuschin into a rabbit
Section three: 2 Oct.-17 Dec. 1925.
ff. 26-35. Centrifuged agglutinations
i) Experiment to see if time after mixing and before centrifuging makes a difference to agglutination
ii) Centrifuged agglutination
iii) Experiment to examine the rate of union of agglutination and microbes
iv) Experiment to test the specificity of in vitro immunity
Section four: 5-16 Dec. 1925.
ff. 41-46, 49, 51. Ridley’s Movie Agglutinations
f. 47. Notes taken from an article on agglutination by J. L. Gates in Journal of Experimental Medicine, 35, 1922, p. 63.
f. 50. Notes from Medical Research Council Special Report No 51, including:
i) Report of committee upon pathological methods
ii) Physical condition influence agglutination
iii) Technique
iv) Dimensions of tubes
v) Absorption
Section five: 15 Jan. 1926, n.d.
ff. 52-55. Removal of Leucocytes
i) Notes on the removal of leucocytes from blood by filtration through cotton wool under pressure, includes notes on the technique and diagram of the apparatus
ii) Experiment testing de-leucocyted AF defibrinated blood.
