Notebook includes:
Section one: 1 April 1924-29 April 1926.
ff. 6-16. Blood Culture
i) Artificial blood culture
ii) AF blood unclotted and planted in bulk with staphylococcus (in slide cells)
iii) Blood culture media – to see what substances prevent clotting (including diagrams of slide cells)
iv) Artificial blood culture – experiment with Am2S04, MgSO4 on streptococcus pyog in slide cells, includes coloured diagrams of the slide cells
v) Blood culture – Edwardson
vi) Blood culture media – slide cells and various streptococcus, experiment has a note written over it ‘no good – pract. no growth’
Section two: 11 June-9 Sept. 1926.
ff. 17-20. Heparin
i) Experiment with heparin and its effect on clotting including test with a rabbit and blood from Fleming’s finger
ii) Heparin and phagocytosis
iii) Heparin on clotting of AF blood – new lot of heparin
Section three: 22 Jan.-3 Feb. 1927.
ff. 21-28. Antiseptics
i) Gentian violet on bacteriosis in blood
ii) Bacteriosis in different mediums – de-leucocyted blood, serum and broth. Tests with flavine, Gentian violet, HgCl2 and picric acid
iii) Bacteriosis by Gentian violet in broth
iv) Flavine bacteriosis and diagrams of slide cells – Gentian noted absorption by paper, includes coloured diagrams of slide cells
Section four:
1. f. 29. Comparative affinity of flavine and carbolic for microbes and filter paper; 10-11 April 1927.
2. f. 30 De-leucocytes (AF) blood and 1/10 volume bugs, 25cmm and chemical 25cm in slide cells; 31 Jan. 1927.
3. f. 31. Experiment using mercurochrome on allen I slide cells; n.d.
Section five: 31 Dec. 1926-20 Oct. 1927
ff. 33-44, 49-75, 80. HgCl2
i) Table with results of experiments with HgCl2 – dilutions of HgCl2 and AF blood infected with bugs
ii) HgCl2 on coli including colour diagrams of slide cells
iii) HgCl2 in slide cells in various bacteria
iv) HgCl2 explanting
v) HgCl2 on Hensons streptococcus
vi) Hgcl2 on leucocytes
vii) HgCl2 on Todd’s movies

xii) HgCl2 on bactericidal to streptococcus (Needhams) in their slide cells
xiii) HgCl2 blood and de-leucocyted blood in movies
xiv) HgCl2 on leucocytes – morphology
xv) HgCl2 on blood – does it only affect bactericidal power to virulent streptococcus?
xvi) HgCl2 on Hares virulent streptococcus (Edwardson)
xvii) Blood on pneumo, HgCl2 on pneumo
Section six: 21 Oct. 1927, n.d.
ff. 1, 31, 76-78. Mercurochrome
