Journal of Fleming’s visit to the Middle East. This trip was as a result of Fleming’s friendship with Dr M. Y. Young, who worked as Medical Adviser to King Feisal of Iraq. Fleming consequently received an official invitation (including expenses) to attend the opening of a new oil pipeline, as a guest of the Iraqi Government.
Due to the size of the diary, Fleming has continued the entries for 6-30 Jan onto the pages dated 30 April-25 May.

7Jan. Details of flight to Naples.
8 Jan. Flight to Corsica via Tobruk, Africa. Includes description two other passengers Shaw and Mrs Braham.
9 Jan. Flight to Heliopolis, near Cairo.
10 Jan. Cairo visited a hospital and the University.
11 Jan. Flight to Ramallah (near Jerusalem) and car journey to Jerusalem and a trip to the Dead Sea.
12 Jan. Flight to Baghdad, passing over the Jordan Valley, Jericho and the
oil pipeline from the air.
13 Jan. Baghdad: Visited a medical school.
14 Jan. Journey to Kirkik.
15 Jan. Baghdad.
16 Jan. On route to Damascus.
17 Jan. Damascus: Picked up by the Douglas’s and taken to a mosque.
Afternoon Guard of Honour of Black troops with band. Reception and lunch where he sat next to the Persian Consul.
18 Jan. Damascus to Beirut
19 Jan. Tripoli. Reception with High Commissioner at 10.30, gathered at signal station to hear speeches and see the pipe line opened.
20 Jan. Visited Baallck with Shaw, Sellars and Medlicott.
28 Jan. Haifa, in the afternoon went to Nazareth with HD.
29 Jan. Haifa. Went to Acre in the afternoon with the Douglas’s. HD had arranged a visit to a prison ‘with many lifers’, Prison Commandant showed them round.
31 Jan. Haifa. Beyrouth with HW in afternoon.
1 Feb. Beyrouth and spent afternoon at [Autreica?] Hospital. Also went round the Medical School with Dr Miller.
2 Feb. Boat to Alexandria.
5 Feb. Back to London.
