A thin Volume in quarto, upon paper: of which a Manuscript Note in Mr. Hargrave's hand, gives the following Account: " This Book contains an Account in the nature of a Journal of the Proceedings of, and Speeches in the House of Commons in the Parliament which first met in 1592 and was dissolved 10th. April 1593. The printed Journals of the Commons are without any matter for that Parliament. But both D'Ewes's and Townshend's Collections include its Proceedings. However the Account here is not transcribed from either, but is quite distinct, and by another hand. " In some parts the word desunt is inserted; whence it appears that the Account is sometimes deficient. " The author of this Account appears to have been a Member of the Commons, see fol. 5 b. " In p. 470 of Sir Simons D'Ewes's Book he professes making occasional use of an anonymous Journal; and this seems to be the same. See fol.
19 b. and compare it with p. 481 of D'Ewes. I find also that sometimes the Speeches in Townshend are the same as here. But there are Many Speeches and much other matter not in Townshend, and this probably is also applicable in some degree to D'Ewes. The Arguments on the Case of Mr. Fitzherbert as to inelegibility from Outlawry are more full here than in Townshend. Particularly there is a Speech of two or three sides by the Speaker on the 2d of March 1592, which in Townshend is wholly omitted. See fol. 20. Upon the whole there seems to me eight or nine times more matter here than in Townshend."
