" CARTÆ ANTIQUÆ " : being transcripts from the Charter Rolls, generally referred to as " Cartæ Antiquæ," which were formerly deposited in the Tower of London, but are now preserved in the Public Record Office. They contain Royal Charters and grants from the time of Ethelbert (ob. 616) to Edward I. The present volume is imperfect, comprising only the charters arranged under the letters A-Q, those on the original rolls being numbered A-Z, AA-RR. There is a complete copy in the British Museum, viz. Harley MSS. 84, 85; and in the library of Pembroke College, Cambridge, is another odd volume similar to the present one, and mostly in the same handwriting, containing the charters numbered AA-NN. A calendar of the charters was made by Sir Joseph Ayloffe and printed in 1774. Paper; ff. 381. xviith cent. Folio.
