"LIBER GENERALIS taxationum, tam temporalium quam spiritualium, in com. Norfolk, pro auxilio levando anno 3 Hen. 4ti [1401-2] ad maritandum Blanchiam filiam suam primogenitam." With indexes of hundreds and parishes at ff. 2 b, 193. The title is in a modern hand; and the volume includes numerous extracts from other records relating to Norfolk down to temp. Jas. I. Followed (f. 206) by "a proportion agreed upon" to be paid by the several hundreds in Norfolk for the muster-master's salary, 3 Oct. 1609 and (f. 207) by an account of some armorial bearings seen in "the late abbey of Thetford." Paper; ff. 208. XVIIth cent. Inside the covers, taken from the original binding, are stamped in gold the royal arms with a label of three points, within the Garter, ensigned with a coronet of crosses and fleurs-de-lys. These arms were used by Henry, eldest son of James I. (see Sandford, Genealogical History, 1707, p. 563); but as O'Conor mentions "the letters J.R. on the back" (Bibl. MS. Stowensis, vol. ii., p. 197), the volume would appear to have belonged to James II., who used these arms when Duke of York (Sandford, p. 655). The volume afterwards belonged to Tho. Astle. Quarto.
