Record of a synod of Clofesho concerning the recovery by Archbishop Wulfred of four sulungs (aratra) at Easole, Kent, promised to him by Ealdberht, comes, and Selethryth, his sister, but fraudulently acquired by Cwoenthryth, abbess of Minster-in-Thanet; dated 824 (Sawyer, no. 1434).
Endorsed in a hand of the late 10th or early 11th century, adding the bounds of Godmersham, Kent, granted by Berhtwulf (? for Bernwulf), king of the Mercians, to Archbishop Wulfred, 823 × 825; and the bounds of eight sulungs (aratra) at Challock, Kent.
Also endorsed in a 10th-century hand, ‘To Oeseƿalum ⁊’; in a hand of the late 10th or early 11th century, ‘⁊ to Godmæresham’; and in a 12th-century hand, ‘Sinodus Wuuredi [altered to Wllureð] archiepiscopi in presentia bernulfi regis merciorum in quo recuperauit terram .iiii. aratrorum in loco qui dicitur oeseƿalum quam ei aldberht comes et eius soror seledr\i/th abatissa post mortem suam dederunt’ and ‘.latine.’

‘RECORD of proceedings at the Council of Clofesho [in Mildenhall, co. Suff.], whereby Uulfred, Archbishop [of Canterbury], recovers from Quoenðryð, abbess, and the family at Suðmynstre [co. Kent.] four aratra of land at Oesewal [?Wall-farm, near Ashford], which Aldberht, earl, and his sister Seleðryð, abbess [of Lyminge, see No. 6 ], had settled upon him; but the sister died, and Aldberht died in Folkestone monastery, having confirmed it to the archbishop, whereupon Osuulf, earl, took the charter of the land and offered it upon the altar at Suðmynstre. Witn.: Uulfred, archbishop; Beornuulf, king of the Mercians; and others. Dat. A.D. 824, indict. ii., 2 Beornulf, 19 Uulfred. Latin. On the back, written in another hand:-
