This charter combines two documents:
King Edgar (r. 959–975) grants to St Peter’s, Westminster, six hides (cassati) at Lohtheres leage (lost, in Hendon, Middlesex), purchased by Archbishop Dunstan (d. 988) from Edgar for 70 gold solidi and previously in the possession of Wulfmær; dated 972, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey; Latin (Sawyer, no. 1450, section two).
Archbishop Dunstan of Canterbury purchases for thirty pounds a further three hides at Lotheres leage, previously held by Brihtferth, huntsman, and grants the estate to St Peter’s, Westminster; dated 978; Latin with Old English bounds (Sawyer, no. 1450, section three).
Endorsed in a 15th-century hand, now illegible; and a 16th-century hand, ‘Westminster king Edgar’.

‘PORTION of a charter of Æthelred, King, reciting a charter of Eadgar, confirming to the monastery of St. Peter [Westminster] six cassates of land at Lohðeres leage [co. Midd.], which Dunstan, archbishop [of Canterbury], bought of the King for seventy solidi of gold for the abbey, in A.D. 972, at Cyngestun [Kingstonon-Thames, co. Surr.] on the death of the owner Wulmær: confirming also three cassates of land in the same place, Loðeres leaga, which Dunstan had bought of King Eadward for thirty pounds, upon the abandonment of the land by Brihtferð, a huntsman. The boundaries include Wæclinga street [Watling Street, Edgware Road], Ægces wer [Edgware], Stan burnan [near Stanmore], Sulh [Roman station Sullonicæ, north of Edgware], Brægenta [Brent River], Heandun [Hendon], etc. [all in co.
