Charter of R. [Roger Skerning], prior of Norwich Cathedral Priory, containing an inspeximus and confirmation by Simon Walton (r. 1257-66), bishop of Norwich, of Margaret of Crek’s grant founding Flixton Priory, given at the instance of Margaret and Beatrice of Batlesden, first prioress of Flixton. The bishop confirms that the nuns will live under the Augustinian Rule, sets down several statutes for the house, and gives instructions for the admission of new sisters once the house’s revenues have increased by 50s a year; given at Ipswich, Thursday next before the feast of the Annunciation, 1262 [23 March 1263].
Endorsed: in an 18th-century hand, ‘A.D. 1262’; in the same 18th century hand, ‘Dat Ipewic die veneris / p[r]ox[ima] post fest[um] annu[n]ciat[io] / beate virginis a.d. 1262’.
