Raine Papers. Vol. cix (ff. ). Essays on society, the nature of man and the human mind; 1981-2003, n.d. Essays examining the Western world's attitudes to materialism and the secular, and discusses man's relation to the spiritual, natural, material and worlds and the nature of man's existence. 1. 'Towards a Living Universe'; 1981. Offprint of the Teachers College Record, vol. 82 No. 3. Discusses man's conception of the universe and the perceived divergence between a world of science and materialism and one of imagination and the spirit.
2. 'Nature and Meaning'; 1986. Possibly delivered at the 1986 weekend retreat organised by the Resurgence Trust.
3. Proposals arising from 'Tradition: a Continual Renewal', a conference held in New Delhi, February-March 1987; [1987]. Also contains the conference programme.
4. 'Global Unity and the Arts'; 1990. Three drafts of a lecture on the exchange of creative thought and knowledge between cultures and on material culture. The untitled draft was initially headed 'Contribution to a Conference on the theme "Transition to a Global Society" held at Landegg Academy, Switzerland, in September 1990.' The third draft includes an autograph passage on Raine's thoughts on the nature of man, prompted by the conference.
5. Foreword to Timeless Beauty: in the Arts and Everyday Life by John Lane (Totnes, 2003).
6. Proposal by Satish Kumar, and heavily reworked by Raine, for a 'Faculty for Complimentary Studies', offering courses covering both practical and intellectual studies.
7. 'Faith'; n.d. Examines the place of faith in contemporary societies and the world of William Blake.
8. 'Speech for the Schumacher Society'; n.d. Examines man's relationship to the natural world. Incomplete.
9. 'The Underlying Order: Nature and the Imagination'. Annotated, 'Probably omit'. Discusses similar issues to item 1.
10. 'The Coming of the Kingdom'; n.d. Compares evolution and scientific advances in comparison with spiritual revelation and the imaginative capacity of the mind; discusses the nature of the Kingdom of God.
11. 'The Learning of the Imagination'; n.d. Discusses the spiritual foundation of learning in the East and West, in particular as the inspiration for the work of Blake and Yeats, the response of the academic world to an approach to scholarship based on spiritual ethics and the work of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and the Temenos Review.
12. 'Re-visioning of the Sacred in Our Time'; n.d. Essay on the nature of sanctity and its importance to humanity and on the healing of a rift between matters of the spirit and material world in western society.
