Vol. I (ff. 180). Letters chiefly concerning modern authors and Blakeney's activities as an amateur printer; 1898-1954. Arranged alphabetically by writers. Included are letters from Thomas James Wise (ff. 122- 127), Rudyard Kipling and the Kipling Society (ff. 13-15, 58-63, 81-85), and two from Algernon Charles Swinburne (ff. 87, 88), the second of which, dated 12 Oct. 1899, is printed by C. Y. Lang, The Swinburne Letters, iv, 1962, pp. 142-143. Blakeney's letters to Wise, 1917-1936, are now in the Ashley Manuscripts in the Department. At the end (f. 178) is a copy in Blakeney's hand of a poem written by Kipling for Lady Beaverbrook, 'Home', beg. 'This is the prayer the Cave Men prayed', 1911 (see A. J. P. Taylor, Beaverbrook, 1972, p. 397).
