MILLAR BEQUEST. Vol. XII. Noted Pontifical, written in France; mid 14th cent. Fragment. Latin. Turner, op. cit., BMQ, xxxiii, p. 29. Essentially a version of the Romano-Germanic Pontifical of the 10th cent. (see ibid.). Letter concerning the coronation rite from Paul Ward to Millar, n.d. (f. i). Square notation on four red staves. See V. Leroquais, Les Pontificaux Manuscrits (1937). Purchased by Sir Thomas Phillipps from Thomas Thorpe: Phillipps MS. 2522, stamp, f. 16. Purchased by Millar from L. Solomons, 4 Feb. 1928.
Vellum; ff. i+29. 293 x 210mm. Pricked and ruled (double bounding lines) in lead-point for single columns of 14 lines. Written space 190 x 128mm. Catchwords. Sporadic guideletters. Script is a Gothic textualis quadrata by one hand. Modern niger binding by W. H. Smith & Son.

6. ff. 28-29v. Part of examination of a bishop elect.
Decoration consists of major and minor initials of alternating blue with red flourishing and red with blue flourishing. Litterae notabiliores within the text in alternating red and blue.
