MILLAR BEQUEST. Vol. XCIII. Montagu Rhodes James, 'Pictor in Carmine'; circa 1932. Autograph. Latin and English. Printed in Archaeologia, xciv (1951), pp. 141-166. Included is correspondence relating to publication of the text, 1948-1950 (ff. 54-65). James intended this study of 'Pictor in carmine', a medieval treatise for artists on types and anti-types, for a Festschrift in honour of Professor Arthur Haseloff, which was planned in 1932. This was never published owing to the political situation in Germany at that time. In 1948 Professor Haseloff himself returned the manuscript to England and Millar saw the work through the press.
