1. ff. 1-9. ‘Dartmoor’, for orchestra; n.d. Pencil score. For sketches see Add. 70766, f. 31v. With a photocopy of a poem of the same name, together with song, ‘Who are the English’ (tune ‘Greensleeves’, adapted by Jim Ward) and poem, ‘October 1936’ (words, Milly Harris) (f. 9).
2. ff. 10-19. ‘Wild Lilies Bloom Red as Flame’, Shensi-Kansu folksong from the People’s Republic of China, arranged for soprano, chorus, flute and piano; [1973?]. Pencil score (ff. 10-16) followed by voice part in ink with pencil annotations (ff. 18-19). On verso of last bifolium of score (f. 17v), pencil sketch of melody of ‘The East is Red’ (see also Adds. 70744, 70766, ff. 73-75), with list of songs headed ‘3 Songs’.
3. ff. 20-25. ‘Wild Lilies Bloom Red as Flame’, arranged for contralto, chorus, alto flute, clarinet, trombone, percussion, harp, viola and double bass; 1973. Pencil and ink score. A reworking of the preceding arrangement. With a photocopy of an article by Chin Wen-yi about the song pasted on to the title page (f. 20).
