EMIL BÖCHER. Vol. I (ff. 18). Aerial photographs, taken from altitudes varying from 900 to 4000 metres. Information taken from these images was almost certainly used to add detail to the printed and MS maps in Add. MS 71642.
1. ff. 1-13. Trench-lines and other defensive positions in northern and north-eastern France; 1917, 1918. Folios 1-9 show area NE of Verdun, and folios 10-13 show the Somme. For Böcher's postings at the relevant times, see 71644 A. 130 x 180mm.
2. ff. 14-16. St. Quentin, showing the shell-damaged basilica and town-centre; 1918. 125 x 170mm.
3. f. 17. 'Frontabschnitt der 25.R. Division nach Aufnahmen der Flieger-Abt. 36'; [1917?] Scale circa 1: 10000. Copy of panoramic aerial photograph in three sections showing the area around Louvemont to the north-east of Verdun, as far east as the Maas and Ost canals. See ff. 1-9 for other aerial photographs of this sector. Copy, with figures added to print in ink. 320 x 735mm.
4. f. 18. Panoramic view in five separate sections of the front line between Viennelaville and Dommartin-sur-Yevre, running roughly north-south midway between Châlons-sur-Marne and Verdun; 1916. Names of the villages are written on the mount above each photograph, with blue and red lines to each place denoting German or Allied territory. Each photograph 140 x 115mm.; overall mount 195 x 775mm., folded concertina-fashion to 200 x 130mm.
