Sir Arthur Gorges: 'The Voyage made to the Isles of Asores . . . under the Conduct and Commaund of Robert late Earle of Essex...Collected and written . . . by Sr Arthur Gorges Knight'; circa 1601. This first-hand account of the Azores expedition of 1598 was first printed in Samuel Purchas's Hakluytus Posthumus or Purchas his Pilgrimes (1625), along with Sir Walter Ralegh's 'certaine Observations and Notes concerning the Royall Navy and Sea service' which, though included on the titlepage of the present manuscript, is wanting here.
