TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vol. CCXVI (ff. 10). Traiano Boccalini: Satire on the Spanish; 1615. This is an anonymous translation of the Italian tract surviving in Bodleian MS Ashmole 749, art. XVI, which was sent by the author with a covering letter to James I dated from Venice, 27 Aug. 1612. The present text is addressed 'To the King of greate Britanny 1615'. Most of the ten episodes of which it consists, composed in the manner of Boccalini's I Ragguagli di Parnasso, were posthumously printed in the Pietra del paragone politico, Venice, 1615 [, as follows: ff. 2-7, pp. 10-12, 28-30, 17-28, 104-107, 12-16; f. 8, l.3-f. 9, l. 10, pp. 79-80. The passages on ff. 7v-8, l.2 (beg. 'By an ancient Custome in Pernassus . . .'), and f. 9, l.10-f. 9v ('I suppose there is not that man to be found in Parnassus . . .') are not found there]. Boccalini's letter to James was published in the edition of I Ragguagli by Luigi Firpo (Bari, 1948), vol. III, pp. 361-363.
