TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vol. CCXXVIII (ff. iv+12). Statutes of the Order of the Garter, in French; circa temp. Henry V. Copy, early-mid 16th cent. This text differs from Henry V's revised version of the statutes that was printed by Elias Ashmole in The institution . . . of the . . . Order of the Garter (1672), Appendix, as also from the texts found in MSS Additional 34801, ff. 19-28, Cotton Julius C. IX, ff. 10-12v and 16-23 (dated to 1488), and Royal 15. E. VI, ff. 439-440v. A note (f. 11) at the end stating that these statutes had been collated with the originals on 5 Jan. 1508/9 'par moy Registreur dudit ordre' is subscribed 'T Rowthals', that is, Thomas Rowthall or Ruthall, later Bishop of Durham.
Paper: ff. iv+12. 312 x 210mm. Limp vellum wrapper. Back cover (f. ivv) originally inscribed 'Statutz et ordonnances de la Toyson d'angleterre, with later hand substituting 'l'ordre' for 'Toyson' and adding 'de la Jarretière' at the end. Watermark of pot with reduced letters 'G G', similar to Briquet no. 12732 (dated 1550-1555). From Add. 19(21).
