1. ff. 1-53v. Letters from Sir Leoline Jenkins, as Secretary of State, to Richard Graham, 1st Viscount Preston, as Ambassador in Paris; 1682-1683. Including (f. 34) one from Edmund Poley, 5/15 April 1683. Partly in cipher and some in a clerk's hand signed by Jenkins. From Misc. LVII. A few letters are printed in H.M.C. Downshire, I, pt i. Preston was Trumbull's predecessor in Paris; for his main archive, see Add. MSS 63752-63781. For further items from his embassy acquired by Trumbull, see Add. 72546, 72590 and 72591 below, and British Library Microfilm 688.
2. ff. 54-103v. Letters to Trumbull from John Tucker, clerk and (1694) Under Secretary of State; 1685-1709. Consisting of official newsletters, 1685-1686, while Trumbull was envoy in Paris, letters of office business, 1696-1697, while he was Secretary of State, and occasional letters of public news, 1702-1709, with a few draft letters from Trumbull. Chiefly from Misc. LVII and Add. 132. A few letters are calendared in H.M.C. Downshire, I, pt i.
3. ff. 104-168v. Letters to Trumbull from Abraham Stanyan, preceded (f. 105) by one letter of 1691 from his father, Lawrence Stanyan; 1691-1698. Abraham Stanyan's letters, beginning in 1693, are chiefly letters of public news and office business written while he was chief clerk in the Secretary of State's office and include a draft letter from Trumbull of October 1693. The last two of Stanyan's letters are written from Venice while he was secretary of embassy. Chiefly from Misc. LVII, LVIII and Add. 107. A few letters are printed in H.M.C. Downshire, I, pt i.
