H. Memorandum by Lieut. - General Rowland Hill, 1st Baron and (1842) 1st Viscount Hill, Commander-in-Chief in England, relating to the Recruiting Service in the Army; 11 Dec. 1833. Together with a related paper, 'Estimated Charge of the Recruiting Establishment'; 12 Dec. 1833. Copies; circa 12 Dec. 1833, or Dec. 1834-April 1835? The manuscripts bear annotations by J. C. Herries, Secretary at War in Sir Robert Peel's first administration, December 1834-April 1835; another hand, found on a cover included in the lot, strongly resembles that of Peel. Letters and papers of the latter were among other Herries items sold in the same sale, (lot 356). For Herries see also Add. MSS 57366-57465; 71096, 71097.
