A. 'La Manche. 1ère Carte.' One map. Manuscript. 54 cm. x 84.5 cm. on sheet 62.5 cm. x 84.5 cm. Scale bar of 20 lieues maritimes (= 4.5 inches) [appx. 1:1,000,000]. Ink and watercolour on paper. The inscription on the title page explains `on a tracé la route des différentes Escadres partant des côtes de France pour cette expédition, celles des Bâtimens chargés de transport et le Lieu de la côte d'Angleterre proposé pour les débarquements'. Shows northern France and the British Isles to Wexford, Cardigan and Orford Ness. Places of importance for the invasion in England written in yellow ink. Sandbanks and sandy bays emphasised. The map shows a Spanish fleet heading for Scotland, while French ships blockade Plymouth and Portsmouth to facilitate the main landings near Hastings.
