H. Elizabeth Billington, singer: anonymous verses inviting her to dinner; circa 1809-1818. Autograph draft. These are headed 'To Mrs Billington A Card.' and begin 'Know sweetest of the Syren race / I dreamt I dind in Francis Place'. The original rhyme-words, now deleted, were 'Syrens, how / Brompton Row', the writer later substituting for Mrs Billington's address his own at no 8 Francis Place (ll. 2, 13), in Camden Town. Also invited are her brother Charles Weichsell (ll. 9, 16) and the composer William Shield and singer Charles Incledon (l. 23). Purchased from J. L. M. Gulley, Jan. 2001.
f. 14. 187 x 152mm. Mounted, as the following, within a leaf of wove paper. Countermarked 'C H' (possibly Charles Hamerton of Wansford Mill, co. Northt., fl. 1799-1815).
