E. A. Goodall Papers. Vol. i. Diary, in pencil, kept by E. A. Goodall during the 1841-1843 expedition to determine the boundary of British Guiana; 28 July 1841– 13 [June] 1842. The diary does not cover the entire period of the expedition, ending abruptly in June 1842. Extracts from the diary, as well as 70 of Goodall’s expedition sketches (now at Add. 16936-16939), appear in Sketches of Amerindian Tribes 1841-1843 by Edward A. Goodall, with an introduction and notes by Mary Noel Menezes (London: British Museum Publications, 1977) where it is described as ‘Goodall’s Georgetown Diary’. More extensive extracts, covering the period of Goodall’s stay in Georgetown whilst the expedition prepared (28 July 1841 – 11 Dec. 1841), appear in the Journal of the British Guiana Museum and Zoo, no. 35 (1962), pp. 39-53. Extracts from the diary covering the expedition itself appear in the Journal of the British Guiana Museum and Zoo, no. 36 (1962), pp. 47-64. A CD-Rom of the diary is available.
