Includes a letter from Elizabeth Myers to George Chester Earle, al. ‘Pod’ (ff. 115) and a copy of an [italics]incomplete[/italics] letter from Earle to Elizabeth Myers (f. 116). Extracts from the correspondence are published in [italics]The Letters of Elizabeth Myers[/italics], ed. Littleton C. Powys (1951), pp. 66-81.
4. ff. 117-231. [italics]Photocopies[/italics] of letters from Eleanor Farjeon to Maitland Radford; 13 Aug. 1914-9 Aug. 1920. With one [italics]original[/italics] letter from Maitland to Eleanor (ff.217-218). The early letters were written to Maitland while he was serving as a Doctor with the British Expeditionary Forces in France. Also includes [italics]photocopies[/italics] of letters from Joan Farjeon, née Thornycroft, to Maitland (ff. 223-226) and an original letter to Maitland from Margaret Radford, his sister (ff. 227-231). In a letter dated 15 June 1915, Eleanor describes her walk over the Downs with D. H. Lawrence (ff. 212-214). This was later published in [italics]Magic Casements[/italics] (1941), pp. 36-42, and is described in ‘D. H. Lawrence and Eleanor Farjeon in Sussex’, [italics]Bulletin of Ohtani Women’s Junior College[/italics], 36, (1992), 202-222. For [italics]typewritten copies[/italics] of the original letters from Lawrence to Eleanor Farjeon relating to their walk, and for a letter from Eleanor to Edward Nehls declining permission to use these letters in a book Nehls was preparing, see material relating to Book Two of Eleanor’s memoirs in Add. 83148.
