Volume of Verses by Frederick Britten Austin; July 1901-20 May 1926. Autograph fair copies, written on both sides of 58 leaves, and on one side only of two (ff. 2b, 61), of an octavo notebook. On f. 1 the notebook has been signed and dated 'F. Britten Austin 1903' and later inscribed to T. J. Wise with the date 7th May 1928. On f. 1b is a quotation from Heine, and on f. 2 the title page 'Verses / F.B.A. / 1903', both in the hand of Austin. On f. 22 is a pencil comment initialled 'R. W.' and on f. 51 a revised stanza dated 22 June 1927 has been substituted for the original final stanza. At the end of the notebook (f. 64 inverted) are two lists in pencil of the same ten titles in different order, and opposite them (f. 63b inverted) the title, also in pencil, 'Vignettes by F Britten Austin'. None of the titles correspond to those of the poems found in this volume. On f. 62, which is separated from f. 61 by 18 blank folios, is the single word 'Index'. The verses, which are all dated, are unprinted with the exception of 'To My Son', printed in Ashley Library Catalogue, x, p. 5.
