Five Ballads: translated from the Danish by George Borrow; 1826 or later. Autograph fair copies, written on both sides of eight narrow octavo leaves of cream laid paper. Watermarks 'F L', '1826' and the figure of Britannia. The ballads, which were possibly written out for 'Songs of Scandinavia', a work projected by Borrow and John Bowring in 1830, comprise 'Mimmering Tan', 'Ribolt's fight with the Dragon and Aller', 'Alf of Odderskiaer', 'Sivard Snaresvend's End', and 'The Giant's Wedding'. At the end of the MS. Borrow has written 'T Salmon 56 Whitaker'. Ashley Library Catalogue, i, p. 62.
