Autograph draft of stanzas 3, 11, 13, 14, 16 of the Dedication and of Canto I, stanza 220, written on one side only of four part folio leaves, and on both sides of a fifth (ff. 188, 188b). The papers used are as follows: f. 187: white laid paper, watermarked ''EEA''; f. 188: grey laid paper, watermarked ''HI / CC?; ff. 189-191: white laid paper, watermarked ? (the leaves have been backed). The text found on each of the leaves begins as follows: f. 187: ''A bungler even in it''s sic disgusting trade''; f. 188: ''You Bob - are rather indolent you know''; f. 188b: ''But I being fond of true philosophy,''; f. 189: ''An oracle of such sot trash of phrase''; f. 190: ''Think''st thou could the blind old Man arise''; f. 191: ''Where shall I turn me not to view its bonds''.
