Letters (3), with envelopes, from Edward Burne-Jones to A. C. Swinburne; [25 April 1859]-3 April 1897. The first letter, postmarked 25 April 1859, and addressed to 'Dear little Carrots', concerns Burne-Jones' designs for St Frides-wide's Window in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, for which Swinburne was to write legends. The second, postmarked 17 July 1896, and addressed to 'My dearest Haggi', acknowledges receipt of a copy of Swinburne's The Tale of Balen, 1896, announces that Swinburne will be receiving a copy of the Kelmscott Chaucer as a joint gift from William Morris and Burne-Jones, and speaks of Morris' illness. The third letter, postmarked 3 April 1897, and addressed to 'My dearest Hajii', asks Swinburne to come and view a painting which Burne-Jones has just completed illustrating the first two lines of Swinburne's 'Tristram'. The two later letters also contain sketches of himself by the writer (ff. 6b, 9b). Ashley Library Catalogue, ii, p. 214.
