'The Death of Topsy': a burlesque play on the subject of William Morris by D. G. Rossetti, provoked by Morris' insistence on taking over the firm of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co. early in 1875; [1875?]. Autograph draft, written on both sides of five leaves of octavo cream laid paper. Watermark part of crowned shield. Add. MS. 57772 XX is an autograph fair copy of the play, of which the text, with minor exceptions, is identical to that of Ashley 1412. Certain revisions are found in both texts, suggesting that the MSS. were written at much the same date. Add. MS. 57772 XX was apparently sent to Mrs William Morris in an envelope postmarked 17 Oct. 1878. Ashley Library Catalogue, ix, p. 117.
Octavo; ff. i+5.
