'Bothwell'. Letter from Swinburne to W. T. Watts[-Dunton] concerning work by the latter on the revision of Bothwell for its projected performance; 18 Oct. [1875]. The letter was dated 1872 by Wise in his Ashley Library Catalogue, vi, pp. 93-94, but the paper, a single sheet folded to form two octavo leaves, is watermarked 'Joynson / 1874'. Accompanying the letter are two pages of autograph notes (ff. 3, 4) by Swinburne concerning the revision of Act I, Act II, Scene IV, and Act IV, Scene I. The notes are written on one side only of two single octavo leaves of white laid paper each bearing half of the watermark 'Joynson / 1874'. It seems very probable that they form part of the notes referred to in the letter. They were incorrectly placed by Wise at the beginning of Ashley 1867. The letter, but not the notes, is printed in C. Y. Lang, Swinburne Letters, iii, 1960, pp. 77-78.
