Letters (7) from A. C. Swinburne to R. H. Horne; 11 Jan. 1876-15 July 1882. In the letters Swinburne discusses his own and Horne's compositions, together with general literary and political topics. As follows:-

13 Feb. 1882. ff. 15-18b. Includes at ff 16, 16b 'Dysthanatos'; 1882. Fair copy. Below the title is the motto:
'Ad generem Cereris sine caede et vulnere pauci
Descendunt reges, et siccâ morte tyranni'
Below the motto is a note by Swinburne '(You will see it is but an expansion of this famous text of Juvenal's, if you turn over)'. The poem is dated at the end 'Monday, March 14, 1881'. The text found in the MS. differs from that printed on p. 222 of the first edition in having 'darkling' for 'dark red' in l. 5. 17 Feb. 1882. ff. 21-22.
