'Tristram of Lyonesse and other Poems'; a poem by A. C. Swinburne; 1881. 1. 'Lines on the Death of Edward John Trelawny'; 1881. Fair copy, with certain revisions, written on one side only of two folio leaves of pale blue laid paper. Watermark 'J Allen & Sons / Superfine / 1879'. The title 'On the Death of John Trelawny' [sic] has been added in pencil by another hand, but the poem is dated 'Aug. 17, 1881.' in Swinburne's hand. The final text found in the MS. is identical with that printed on pp. 236-237 of the first edition. Accompanied by the leaf (pp. 275, 276) from the Athenæum for 27 Aug. 1881 on which the poem was first printed. The verso of the second leaf of the MS. (f. 2b) is occupied by:
2. 'The Salt of the Earth'; [1881?]. Fair copy, with one word revised, written on one side only of a folio leaf of pale blue laid paper. Watermark 'J Allen & Sons / Superfine / 1879'. The title 'The Salt of the Earth' has been added in pencil below the poem by another hand. With the exception of one word in l. 15 and the order of two words in l. 13, the text found in the MS. is identical with that printed on p. 252 of the first edition.
