'Selections from the Poetical Works of Algernon Charles Swinburne'. Draft list, in Swinburne's hand, of poems to be included in Selections from the Poetical Works of Algernon Charles Swinburne, 1887, written on one side only of a folio leaf of blue laid paper. Watermark 'J Allen & Sons / Superfine / 1879'. The draft differs from the contents of Selections in the following respects:―
'By the North Sea' is interlined above deleted 'Near Southwold'; 'In Guernsey' is not found after 'The Caves of Sark'; interlined above 'A Dialogue' is deleted 'Hope and Fear'; between 'A Dialogue' and 'Hertha' is deleted 'Children'; 'A Year's Burden' is not found after 'In San Lorenzo'; 'Mazzini', 'To Aurelio Saffi' and 'A Sunset' have been added later; 'A Child's Laughter' has been altered from 'A Child's Future', as has 'A Child's Sleep'; 'A Song of Welcome' is not found after 'A Child's Sleep', but in its place 'Sunrise' has been added; 'Herse' is written beside deleted 'Itylus'; 'Cradle Songs' is not found after 'Herse'; 'Itylus' is written beside deleted 'Herse'; 'Hope and Fear' and 'A Fosterling' have been added later; 'A Fosterling' has been altered from 'Education'; between 'A Fosterling' and 'Iseult at Tintagel' 'The Queen's Pleasance' has been added with a query; following 'Iseult at Tintagel' 'Joyous Gard' has been added with a query, but deleted. 'Joyous Gard' is written below 'Bamborough'; 'Kynance Cove' and 'Sea and Sunrise' have been added later, the latter with a query. 'Sea and Sunrise' has been altered from 'Sea and Sundawn'; 'Storm and Battle' is found as 'A Song of Battle'; 'Mary Stuart at Solway Firth' is found as 'From Bothwell', and follows deleted 'Carberry Hill'; 'Mary Stuart at Chartley' is found as 'From Mary Stuart', and follows deleted 'From the same'.
'In the Salt Marshes' is numbered '5', 'A Dialogue' '10', 'A Ballad of Dreamland' '20', 'Anadyomene' '25' (deleted), 'The Death of Meleager' '30', 'Oreithyia' '30' (deleted), and 'Adieux à Marie Stuart' '36'. [Ashley Library Catalogue, vii, p. 70].
