'Kragelill' and 'Allegast': two ballads translated from the Danish by George Borrow. For the dating of these MSS. see the description of 2396. Ashley Library Catalogue, i, p. 61. As follows:―
1. 'Kragelill'; [before 1857?]. Autograph fair copy, written on both sides of one quarto leaf of white wove paper, and on one side only of another. The leaves are conjoined. No watermark. The MS. is entitled as above in Borrow's hand, and below the title has 'Chorus. / Whilst I myself ride lonely'. There is an autograph footnote to l. 51 'The significance of Swanelill is little swan, whilst Kragelill means little crow'. Printed in The Works of George Borrow, viii, 1923, pp. 106-108. ff. 169-170.
2. 'Allegast'; [1830?]-[1857?]. Autograph fair copy, with revisions, written on both sides of a quarto leaf of white laid paper. Watermark 'T Warren'. The MS. is entitled as above in Borrow's hand. For the dating of this MS. cf. the watermark of A2410. Printed in The Works of George Borrow, viii, 1923, pp. 86-89. ff. 171, 171b.
