Two Letters to T. J. Wise, both concerned with the authorship of the "Life of Strafford" published in Lardner's Cabinet Cyclopaedia in 1836, and which F. J. Furnivall in Robert Browning's Prose Life of Strafford, 1892, had stated to be by Robert Browning. The earlier letter, dated 30 July 1894, is from Mrs Eliza Ann Forster the widow of the true author, John Forster (ff. 38-39), and sends copies of a letter to her from R. W. B. Browning, the poet's son, 27 Feb. 1893 (ff. 40-41b), and of a letter from Charles Kent to the editor of the Times, May 1892 (ff. 42-43), both on the same subject. The later letter, dated 20 April 1904, is from W. B. Slater (f. 44). Ashley Library Catalogue, i, pp. 129-130.
