'The Dover Patrol': an article by Joseph Conrad; 1921. Typescript, with many autograph revisions and corrections, written on one side only of ten large quarto leaves of white laid paper. Watermark a ram's head above 'ORIGINAL / CHARTHAM MILLS / KENT'. At the head of the first page (f. 2) Conrad has added an autograph title 'The Dover Patrol' and the note 'Article for the Times', and at the foot of the last (f. 11) he has added the note 'Written on the occasion of unveiling of the Memorial to the Dover Patrol on the 27 July 1921 - finished on the 23 July 1921'. The article was originally signed 'J.C.'. Conrad has added full signatures on ff. 2 and 11. He has also added an autograph title page (f. 1). Accompanying the typescript is a letter (ff. ii-iii) from Conrad's secretary, Miss L. M. Hallowes, to T. J. Wise, dated 29 Aug. 1921, sending the 'First Copy' of 'The Book of Job' (v. 2941), and the present typescript. Ashley Library Catalogue, i, p. 255.
