'Keats': a critical biography by Andrew Lang; [1896]. Autograph fair copy, with some revisions, written on one side only of sixty-six quarto leaves of white laid paper. Watermarks 'FLORENTINE' (ff. 3-7, 42-45), 'GURNEY / IVORY LAID' (ff. 8-41, 46-49, 51-62) and none (ff. 50, 63-68). The biography is preceded by a preface, written on one side only of two quarto leaves of white laid paper, without watermark (ff. 1, 2). The biography is entitled as above, and signed 'A Lang / 1 Marloes Road / W' on f. 3. Lang has numbered ff. 4-68 '2'-'66'. According to T. J. Wise, Ashley Library Catalogue, iii, p. 27, the biography was written in 1896 to accompany a proposed edition of the poems of Keats which was abandoned, and the biography was accordingly never published. Nevertheless the MS. has been marked up for the press, and corrections made throughout in blue pencil, and instructions have been written on f. 3 in pencil.
