Letter from William Bell Scott to T. J. Wise as Secretary of the Shelley Society, enclosing his annual subscription, and saying that he would subscribe to defray the debts of the society if he did not disapprove 'of the quantity of things they printed or reprinted'; 28 May 1889. Scott goes on to attack the 'almost insane egotism that allowed R. Browning to let them go to the expense of reprinting his verbose stuff written on forged letters of P.B.S. showing his ignorance of the original article'. [Ashley Library Catalogue, iii, p. 156].
