Letters from various correspondents, chiefly concerning the sale to T. J. Wise by Floryan Sobieniowski, translator of G. B. Shaw's plays into Polish, of rehearsal copies of certain plays by Shaw. [Ashley Library Catalogue, xi, p. 109]. As follows:―
1. Letter, with envelope (f. 112), and postcard (f. 113), from Shaw to Sobieniowski, the letter concerning the reception of Shaw's The Adventures of The Black Girl In her Search for God and its banning in the Irish Free State, the postcard elucidating various points in the text of On The Rocks; 24 July, 4 October 1933. ff. 111-112, 113, 113b.
2. Two letters and a note (f. 116) from Shaw to Wise, the letters concerning the desire of Elizabeth Yeats to sell a complete set of Dun Emer and Cuala Press publications and, in the case of the later letter (f. 115), explaining the status of rehearsal copies of Shaw's plays, and the note acknowledging receipt of 'the bibliography'; 27, 29 Sept. (the letters), 20 July (the note) 1933. ff. 114, 115, 116.
3. Three fragments of brown paper cut from the wrappings of parcels, each bearing Wise's address in the hand of Shaw. ff. 117, 118, 119.
4. Three letters from Sobieniowski to Wise, the two earlier concerning the sale to Wise of a rehearsal copy of Shaw's Too True to be Good, the latest (ff. 122, 123) sending the postcard described under (1) and promising further material of that kind together with rehearsal copies of The Political Madhouse and other plays, in return for which Sobieniowski asks Wise for the loan of £15; 9, 11 July, 5 Oct. 1933. ff. 120, 121, 122, 123.
5. Envelope originally addressed to Mrs Wise, bearing the note '"Black Girl" Letters' in Wise's hand. f. 124.
