Letter from Major James Sterling, British Consul at Genoa, to E. J. Trelawny, stating that he has received no news of the fate of P. B. Shelley and his companions, and hoping that Shelley's boat may have reached Corsica safely; 19 July 1822. Ashley Library Catalogue, v, p. 111, where the letter is printed. Accompanying the letter are two others, the first (f. ii) from Edmund Gosse to T. J. Wise, 9 Jan. 1924, sending the second (f. iii) in which Pembroke Wicks, Lord Curzon's Parliamentary Private Secretary, writes to inform Gosse that the British Consul in Genoa in 1822 was Sterling, occasionally spelled Stirling, 8 Jan. 1924.
