Poetical Notebook by A. C. Swinburne; [1858-1859]. Autograph drafts, written on both sides of twenty-two quarto leaves of white laid paper. No watermark. Ashley Library Catalogue, vii, pp. 61-62. As follows:
1. 'Lancelot' (thus entitled in Swinburne's hand). ff. 5-15.
2. Untitled poem on the death of Jaufré Rudel. The second part of the poem has the title or direction in Swinburne's hand 'At Tripoli' (f. 17b). The poem has the same metre and rhyme scheme as 'Lancelot', with the result that T. J. Wise wrongly concluded that 'Lancelot' ended at the foot of f. 15b, and that the poem on Rudel began on f. 16, and has marked the MS. accordingly. The poem on Rudel in fact begins at the head of f. 15b. ff. 15b-19.
3. Ballad, untitled, beginning 'It was when cocks began to crow'. ff. 19b-21.
4. 'Second Love', a ballad entitled thus in Swinburne's hand. ff. 21b-22b.
Bound up with the MS. is a copy of Wise's private printing, Lancelot, The Death of Rudel, and other poems, 1918 (ff. 1-4, 23-35).
Quarto; ff. i+35.
