Letters to A. C. Swinburne and W. T. Watts[-Dunton]. As follows:―
1. Letters (10) from H. R. Fox Bourne, editor of the Examiner, to Swinburne; 8 March-10 June 1873. The letters are preceded by a note (f. 1) in Edmund Gosse's hand, stating that the letters relate to Swinburne's 'Saviour of Society' sonnets. ff. 1-23.
2. Letter from Ford Madox Brown to Watts[-Dunton], concerning the condition of D. G. Rossetti, and offering him a self portrait; n.d. ff. 24-25.
3. Two letters from Edward Burne Jones to Swinburne, the earlier concerning D. G. Rossetti and Burne Jones' debt to him, the later saying that he is coming to hear Swinburne read his 'Tristram'; [12 March 1882], [July 1882]. ff. 26-27, 28, 29-30b.
4. Letter in the third person from Marie Corelli to Swinburne, enclosing a 'spray of orange blossom' from the grave of Keats, with one leaf from the 'spray'; 31 May 1883. ff. 31-32 (f. 33 is the leaf).
5. Two letters to Swinburne from his aunt, Lady Mary Gordon, thanking for the copy of his lines to her Great Grand-daughter (1894), and for the amusing cuttings; 23 Nov. 1894, before 1896. ff. 34-37b.
6. Letters (3) to Swinburne from his cousin, Mary Gordon, Mrs Leith, written in the simple cypher which Swinburne and Mary Gordon used when writing of flagellational subjects; 29 Jan. 1893-1895. With the letters is a letter (ff. 38, 39) from Edmund Gosse to T. J. Wise, 1925, urging him to tear the letters up as being of no value. ff. 38-49b.
7. Letters (9) from John Morley to Swinburne, written as editor of the Fortnightly Review; 8 Sept. 1868-27 May 1880. Accompanying the letters is a typewritten copy (ff. 57, 58) of a letter of 25 Aug. 1872 of which the original is in B1978. ff. 50-66.
