MAX STAFFORD-CLARK PAPERS. VOL. XLVI. Rehearsal script of 'Fanshen', by David Hare, adapted from the book by William Hinton, and first performed by the Joint Stock Theatre Group in 1975. The writer and the actors had collaborated on the final version of the play, having worked together to produce a script through improvisation and discussion at workshop and rehearsals. This working version of the script is made up of countless short sections, produced on at least three different typewriters: in some places it has been annotated, photocopied, and then annotated and edited a second and third time. The author's own recensions of 'Fanshen' are in the David Hare Archive at the Humanities Research Institute at the University of Texas at Austin.
Paper; 330 x 205 mm.
