MAX STAFFORD-CLARK PAPERS. VOL. LVII. 'Letters to George'; draft of rehearsal diary written in the form of letters to George Farquhar, author of 'The recruiting officer', during the entire preparation and rehearsal period, from January 1988 to the first preview performance on 21 July 1988. This was published as Letters to George by Nick Hern Books in 1989. The remaining entries in the notebook are drafts for pieces written between July 1989 and February 1999; articles on Farquhar, David Hare and political theatre, and an appreciation of Joseph Papp on his death in November 1991, for the Independent and the Guardian, Stafford-Clark's application to renew his contract as artistic director of the Royal Court, and his talk to the Society of Psychoanalysts in February 1999.
